Background

HTE is seeking to develop the UK’s first waste-to-hydrogen facility in Manston, Kent.

The project builds on years of innovation in clean energy and represents a new way of thinking about how we manage waste by using it as a resource to produce low-carbon hydrogen instead of sending it to landfill or incineration.

The proposed site is located next to an existing waste facility on land that hasn’t been in active use for some time. It is a well-connected site, close to main road networks, local ports and Manston airport, making it an ideal location for a project designed to serve both the immediate local area and the wider district.

If approved, the facility in Manston would be the first of its kind in the UK, aiding Thanet to play a leading role in sustainable innovation, creating local jobs and supporting a more circular, self-sufficient economy for the future.
